Using a separate, physical device makes it easier to stay focused. App limits on your phone are easy to skip because your phone is always with you. With Shift, the "off switch" is separate from your phone — if the device isn't near you, the temptation is out of reach, giving your mind space to focus without the constant urge to check.

You can, but most people find the opposite happens: once Shift lives somewhere deliberate — another room, a drawer, your desk at work — walking back to it becomes the point. It turns off screen time into a decision you make once a day, not a hundred small ones.

Not in Strict mode. Once it's on, you can't delete the app or switch modes without tapping the puck first — that's the whole point.

No. Shift uses passive NFC — there's no battery in the puck, ever.

Yes — you can connect one Shift to more than one phone, but for the best experience we recommend one Shift per person.

You'll still be able to use the app. Five emergency unlocks are built in to unblock everything if you need to. If you run out, email us and we'll help.

Shift works with any iPhone running iOS 13 or later. Android support is on the roadmap.

You can activate Shift mode from the app by holding the button for a few seconds, so you can block distractions even without the puck nearby. To unblock, you'll still need the physical device.
